Body Control Pilates Association®
The Body Control Pilates Association was established in 1995 under the direction of Lynne Robinson and has become the benchmark for Pilates in Europe and the largest professional body for Pilates teachers in the UK.
Body Control Pilates Association Teachers
work to a strict code of practice
which governs teaching standards, professional ethics and continuing education of it's members.
To qualify as a BCPA teacher, each student attends 80 hours of tuition in Pilates theory, exercises and anatomy, followed by a three hour written
exam and a one hour practical exam.
At
the end of this formal tuition, each teacher must then complete a
period of supervised teaching, which is typically 50 hours. You can be
sure that any teacher qualified with the BCPA has an excellent understanding of the Pilates method!
The Body Control Pilates Association's listing of qualified teachers is available to view at:

Body Control Pilates is a Registered Trade Mark used under licence

The
Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs)
is the largest
qualification-based professional body setting a
National Standard
within the fitness industry. Registration with REPs does mean your teacher
has recognized and approved qualifications endorsed by the Government.
Qualifications are only listed when obtained from a recognized training provider with REP's.
If
considering a career in Pilates, it is worth noting that all fully
qualified pilates teachers in the United Kingdom are required
to hold an NVQ Level 3 (Advanced Instructor) recognized
by REPs. Sadly, not all "Level 3" Pilates courses now offered by
colleges or lesser known studios are recognized by the Register of
Exercise Professionals, so it is essential to check that your choice is
a "recognized training provider" of REPs prior to enrolling on a
Pilates Teachers course. A full listing is available to view on their
website.
The Body Control Pilates Association®
was one of the first professional bodies for Pilates in the UK to
comply with these national standards. If you are considering Pilates,
especially if you suffer with joint or back problems, PLEASE check that
your teacher is fully qualified to teach Pilates.
The
qualifications of all fitness professionals including pilates teachers
can be verified on the Register of Exercise Professionals website at: www.exerciseregister.org
